Do places only begin to speak once no one is left?

In the medieval vaults of the Historischer Keller, orientation is not a path but a frequency. The room does not respond. It begins to vibrate.

For You Are Here Since You Left, artist Margarita Wenzel has developed a site-specific sound installation made of barely perceptible movements: air, footsteps, the resonances of the masonry. The sounds circulate within the frequency range of the human voice without ever becoming language, then ebb back into the material. Something seems to be communicating, yet every meaning slips away in the same moment.

You Are Here Since You Left is not a narrative about this place. It is an experimental setup for what happens when architecture begins to hear, and listeners encounter themselves within it: as afterglow, as projection, as possibility. The cellar becomes the resonating body of a perception that does not have to decide between inside and outside, present and memory, self and other. Listening becomes a movement of searching. Space comes into being at the moment it is missed.

What is an echo when it no longer knows its origin?
